Assoc. Prof. Svilen Simeonov

Svilen Simeonov studied chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Sofia, Bulgaria where he received in 2004 his MSci in Organic chemistry. He started his research career at the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IOCCP-BAS) as an assistant researcher. In 2010 he received a PhD grant from FCT - Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia, Portugal and moved to Instituto Superior Tecnico – CQFM, Lisbon and later to Pharmacy Faculty of the Lisbon University where in 2014 he received his PhD in organic chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Afonso. In fall 2014, he return to IOCCP-BAS where he currently holds the position of a head of Laboratory “Organic Synthesis and Stereochemistry”. In 2015 Àssoc. Prof. Dr. Simeonov received the UNESCO award for leading young researchers "Green Chemistry for Life". He is a co-author of more than 30 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals, including Green Chemistry (IF 9.4), ChemSusChem (IF 7.8), Angewandte Chemie (IF 12.2), Chemical Reviews (IF 54.3), etc. To date the scientific publications have been cited over 1400 times, h index 14. Over the last 5 years, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Simeonov was a PI of two projects funded by UNESCO science programs, currently is a PI of a project funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund and a coordinator for Bulgaria of a Horizon 2020 project.
